Gophers Return to Landmark Play at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Host Juniata College never trailed and opened a 43-20 halftime lead as it eased past Goucher College for a 87-63 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.
- With the game tied 4-4, Juniata (9-4, 2-0 Landmark) used an 8-0 run to lead 12-4 5:23 into the first half.
- Goucher (2-10, 0-2) scored the next five points and a conventional three-point play by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) pulled the Gophers within three, 12-9, at the 12:28 mark.
- A 15-3 spurt by the Eagles put the hosts in front 27-12 with 6:31 left before halftime.
- The Juniata run was stopped by a three by John Dixon (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) with 6:13 on the clock.
- Juniata upped the lead to 22 with just over a minute left in the half and took a 43-20 lead into the locker room.
- Alex Miller (Manchester, Md./Calvert Hall) opened the second half with a three-point play for the Gophers.
- The Eagles increased the lead to 53-26 with just over three minutes gone in the half.
- A 9-2 run capped by a layup by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) with 13:12 to go moved Goucher within 20, 55-35.
- Juniata countered with an 11-2 run to build a 66-37 advantage midway through the second half.
- The Eagles took their largest lead, 79-47, with just over five minutes remaining.
- Morgan reached double figures for the ninth time this season with a team-high 17 points on 5-9 shooting while going 6-9 at the free throw line.
- Lichti also reached double figures, recording 11 points on 4-8 shooting.
- Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and Peter Capan (Parkton, Md./Hereford) finished with seven points apiece, while Frank Pena (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wiregrass Ranch) added six.
- Goucher shot 41% overall, was 4-12 behind the arc and 23-30 at the free throw line.
- Juniata, which outrebounded Goucher 36-24, shot 59.7% overall and was 10-16 at the line, but just 3-16 behind the arc.
- Goucher is home for the first time in over a month on Friday, when it hosts Drew University in a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
