Hot Shooting Moves No. 22 Catholic Past Gophers at Palestra

PHILADELPHIA - No. 22 Catholic University knocked down 17 three-pointers and shot 51% overall as it downed Goucher College 94-47 in Landmark Conference men's basketball at The Palestra Sunday evening as part of Landmark at The Palestra.
- Goucher (2-12, 0-4 Landmark) scored the game's first basket on a hoop by Brandon Joseph (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian).
- The Cardinals (14-1, 3-1) used a 12-0 run to take a 12-2 lead 5:27 into the contest.
- The Gophers countered with a 12-0 run of their own and a jumper from the top of the key by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) put them in front 14-12 with 10:25 on the clock.
- Catholic used a 20-2 run over the next five minutes, including four three-pointers, to build a 32-16 lead with just over five minutes to go in the half.
- A basket by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) stopped the Cardinal run.
- Catholic extended its lead to 45-24 at the break.
- Catholic scored the first seven points of the second half to up its lead to 52-24 1:40 into the second half.
- After the lead swelled to 32, Goucher got it back to 28, 64-36, on a Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) three with just under 13 minutes to go.
- The Cardinals maintained at least a 29-point cushion the rest of the way and closed the game on a 13-2 run.
- Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) paced Goucher with 12 points on 5-11 shooting.
- Lichti finished with 11 points while grabbing four rebounds, while Nwankwo and John Dixon (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) each added six.
- Goucher shot 38.5% overall, knocked down five of its 14 three-point attempts and was 2-7 at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals were 9-16 at the stripe while knocking down 17 of their 37 three-point attempts (46%). Catholic was 34-67 (50.7%) overall.
- Catholic held a 44-26 rebound advantage and committed just nine turnovers while forcing 18 Goucher giveaways.
