Blue Jays Fly Away From Gophers

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Junior Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) led three Goucher College players in double figures with 16 points, but host Elizabethtown College pulled away in the second half for an 80-67 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.
- Goucher (2-14, 0-6 Landmark) held a 12-10 lead just under five minutes into the game following a conventional three-point play by senior Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg).
- Etown (8-8, 2-4) scored 12 straight points to take a 22-12 lead with 11:11 on the clock.
- Trailing 29-18, the Gophers answered with a 9-0 run and a three-pointer by Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) cut the lead to two, 29-27, with 4:17 to go in the half.
- The Blue Jays upped their lead to seven before a basket by Thomas Lewis (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) made it 34-31 with 1:33 to go.
- The hosts held a 36-31 lead at intermission.
- A basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) cut the Etown lead to 36-33 36 seconds into the second period.
- The Blue Jays used a 7-0 spurt to go up 46-35 three minutes in.
- Miller nailed a three with 14:48 on the clock to get the Etown lead to six, 46-40.
- Leading 61-54, Elizabethtown rattled off a 17-2 run to go up 76-56 with just over three minutes left.
- Goucher closed the game by outscoring the hosts 11-4.
- Miller finished 6-9 from the floor and knocked down four of his five three-point attempts.
- Morgan totaled 14 points, while Lichti went 5-5 at the free throw line and added 13 points.
- Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) added seven points in 11 minutes in his return.
- Goucher shot 40% overall, went 6-13 (46%) behind the arc and 11-14 at the free throw line.
- Etown, which outrebounded Goucher 45-28, shot 52% overall and 10 of its 21 three-point attempts while going 8-14 at the stripe.
- Goucher committed a season-low eight turnovers.
- Goucher travels to Susquehanna on Wednesday, January 25, for a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home next Saturday, January 28, hosting Scranton at 4 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
