Late Scranton Run Sinks Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Scranton used a late 12-0 run to turn a 62-60 deficit into a 72-62 lead and an eventual 74-67 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory against Goucher College at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center Saturday afternoon.
- Scranton (13-6, 5-3 Landmark) jumped out to a 9-2 lead 2:28 into the game.
- A basket by Goucher's (2-16, 0-8) Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) made it 11-6 with 15:52 to go in the opening half.
- The Royals gradually pulled out to a 24-13 lead midway through the half.
- The Gophers got within eight, 26-18, on a conventional three-point play by Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) with 6:28 on the clock.
- An 11-4 run by the visitors made it 37-22 with 3:48 left following a three by Cameron Khoza.
- Goucher closed the half on a 20-3 run and a Morgan layup in the final seconds made it 40-32 at the break.
- The Gophers scored eight of the first 12 points of the second half to make it 44-40 with 17:51 on the clock following a jumper by Alex Miller (Manchester, Md./Calvert Hall).
- After Scranton pushed the lead back to eight, 48-40, a 10-1 Goucher run capped by a Brandon Joseph (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) putback with 13:13 left gave the hosts their first lead of the game, 50-49.
- The Royals retook the lead on their next possession, but Goucher reclaimed the lead on a three by Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) that made it 53-51 with 12:06 to go.
- Another Onterio Miller triple with 9:14 remaining gave the Gophers their largest lead, 58-53.
- Scranton tied the game 60-60 with 4:24 left.
- Morgan made a jumper with 3:37 to go that put the Gophers back in front, but Scranton responded with 12 straight points to take a 72-62 lead with 37 seconds to go.
- A layup by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) with 26 seconds left made it 72-64, but after Scranton sank two free throws, a Green three in the final moments accounted for the final.
- Green matched his career high with 21 points, going 7-15 from the floor while also grabbing seven rebounds and making three steals.
- Joseph was the other Gopher in double figures as he shot 7-12 from the floor and had 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
- Morgan registered eight points, five assists and a pair of steals, while Lichti and Onterio Miller added six points apiece.
- Goucher, which was outrebounded 43-35, shot 37% overall, was 5-22 from behind the arc and 6-15 at the free throw line.
- The Royals shot 51% overall, were 6-21 from long range and 18-22 at the stripe.
- Goucher forced 19 Scranton turnovers and had 12 steals, including five from Lichti, while finishing with a season-low seven turnovers of its own.
- The Gophers have recorded double-digit steals in each of the last four games.
- Goucher remains at home Wednesday, hosting Catholic in a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
