League-Leading Cardinals Ease Past Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Landmark Conference-leading Catholic University shook Goucher College midway through the first half as it eased to an 86-60 men's basketball victory Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Gopher junior Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) had a career-best 19 points in the setback.
- Goucher (2-17, 0-9 Landmark) had the game's first two points and tied the game 10-10 just over six minutes in on two Miller free throws.
- Catholic (19-1, 8-1) scored the next seven points to build a 17-10 lead.
- Trailing 22-15, the Gophers used a 7-4 spurt to pull within four, 26-22, on a layup by Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) with 8:44 left in the half.
- The Cardinals scored the game's next 12 points to open a 38-22 lead with 5:17 on the clock.
- The guests continued to stretch their lead and opened a 56-26 halftime advantage.
- The Catholic lead swelled to 68-31 4:30 into the second half.
- Trailing 75-43, Goucher used a 12-0 run capped by two David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) to whittle the lead to 20, 75-55, with 8:32 remaining.
- A basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) with 5:42 left got the lead down to 19, 79-60.
- The Cardinals scored the game's final seven points.
- Miller finished 7-10 from the floor and 2-4 behind the arc while making all three free throws. He reached double figures in scoring for the third time in four games.
- Morgan was the other Goucher player in double figures as he added 13 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists.
- Green finished with eight points while Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) had seven and Alex Miller (Manchester, Md./Calvert Hall) contributed six.
- Nwankwo grabbed eight rebounds, one shy of his career high.
- Goucher shot 37% overall, was 4-11 from three and 12 of 17 at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals, who outrebounded Goucher 49-36, shot 47% overall, were 11-32 from three and 5-7 at the stripe.
