Eagles Down Gophers to Remain in Landmark Race

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Juniata College never trailed as it remained in second place in the Landmark Conference men's basketball standings with an 82-63 win over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Juniata (14-7, 7-3 Landmark) jumped out to a 9-2 lead five minutes into the game.
- Goucher (2-18, 0-10) got within four, 11-7, with just over 13 minutes to go on a basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie).
- The Eagles opened a 20-9 advantage with 10:16 on the clock.
- The Gophers used an 11-2 run to pull within two, 22-20, on a Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) layup with 7:32 remaining.
- The guests responded with 13 straight points to build a 35-20 lead with 3:34 left.
- Goucher chipped away and got within 11, 38-27, at the break.
- A three-point play by Morgan on Goucher's first possession made it a 38-30 game.
- Juniata went on a 15-0 run to take a 53-30 lead with just over four minutes gone by in the second stanza.
- The Eagles took a 61-34 lead with 12:21 on the clock.
- An 8-1 Gopher spurt capped by a Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) layup with 10:21 left made it 62-42.
- Goucher would make another push and a free throw by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) with 5:31 to go made it 73-54.
- A layup by Green with 4:11 left made it 75-59, but that would be as close as the Gophers would get.
- Morgan paced Goucher with 13 points on 5-7 shooting while adding four steals and four rebounds. He reached double figures for the sixth time in seven games and the 15th time this season.
- Green was the other Gopher in double figures with 10 points. He finished with five steals and five boards and was in double figures for the 10th time this season.
- Miller knocked down a pair of threes and added nine points off the bench.
- Goucher shot 41.1% overall, 5-12 behind the arc and 12-21 at the free throw line while outrebounding the Eagles 33-32.
- The Gophers finished with 13 steals, their 10th double-digit steal effort of the season.
- Juniata shot 50% overall, knocked down seven of its 13 three-point attempts and went 25-30 at the free throw line.
- Goucher travels to Moravian on Wednesday, February 8 for a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home Wednesday, February 15, hosting Susquehanna in a 7 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
