Gophers Place Four in Double Figures at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) and David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) each finished with 19 points to lead four Goucher College players in double figures, but host Moravian University registered a 90-74 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory Wednesday evening at Johnston Hall.
- Moravian (8-14, 5-6 Landmark) staked itself to a 12-5 lead 3:38 into the game.
- The Gophers (2-19, 0-11) used a 6-1 spurt to cut the lead to two, 13-11, on Nwankwo's layup at the 14:22 mark.
- A three by Thomas Lewis (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) with 11:20 on the clock gave Goucher its first lead, 18-16.
- Moravian responded with 11 straight points to build a 27-18 lead with 8:11 to go before the break.
- Leading 33-23, the hosts closed the half on a 16-9 run to build a 49-32 lead at intermission.
- The Greyhounds added to their lead, going up 55-32 1:23 into the second half.
- Trailing 70-50 midway through the half, Goucher used a 6-0 run capped by a Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) layup to cut the lead to 14, 70-56, with 8:32 left.
- After Moravian pushed the lead back to 20, the Gophers made a 8-0 push capped by a Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) three to made it 76-64 with 5:11 on the clock.
- That would be as close as the guests would get as the Greyhounds maintained a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
- Nwankwo's 19 points were a career high as he went 8-12 from the floor and 3-5 at the free throw line. He also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds for his first career double-double.
- Lichti finished one shy of his career high as he was 8-17 from the floor and made all three of his free throws. He added five rebounds and four steals.
- Green finished 3-3 behind the arc and recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Morgan added 10 points and seven assists.
- Morgan finished in double figures in scoring for the seventh time in eight games, while his seven assists were a career high.
- Goucher shot 43.9% for the game, was 5-15 behind the arc and 11-26 at the free throw line. The Gophers held a 43-39 rebound advantage.
- Moravian shot 59.4% (19-32) over the opening 20 minutes and 47.6% for the game while knocking down 14 of its 31 three-point attempts. The Greyhounds finished 16-25 at the stripe.
- Goucher remains on the road Saturday, traveling to Drew for a 4 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home next Wednesday, February 15, entertaining Susquehanna in a 7 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
