Drew Puts Gophers Away Early

MADISON, N.J. - Drew University scored 20 of the game's first 22 points as it cruised to an xx-xx Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Gymnasium.
- Drew (12-11, 4-8 Landmark) scored the game's first nine points and held a 20-2 lead seven minutes into the game.
- The Gophers (2-20, 0-12) used a 9-2 run capped by two Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) free throws to make it 22-11 with 10:51 left before halftime.
- The Rangers scored the next seven points before another 9-2 Goucher spurt made it 31-20 with 4:12 to go on a dunk by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy).
- The hosts scored the next 15 points and outscored Goucher 22-4 the remainder of the half as they opener a 53-24 halftime lead.
- Drew extended its lead to 32, 64-32, three minutes into the second half.
- Goucher worked the lead down to 25, 68-43, on a basket by Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) with just under 12 minutes left.
- The Gophers got it down to 24 with just under six minutes left following a conventional three-point play by Brandon Joseph (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian), but the Rangers continued to maintain a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
- Green finished 6-10 from the floor and paced Goucher with 15 points and six rebounds.
- Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) notched 11 points and eight rebounds, while also dishing out six assists.
- Joseph recorded 10 points as he made four of his eight field goal attempts.
- Nwankwo and Graham chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively.
- The Gophers outrebounded Drew 40-39 and shot 41.8% overall while going 1-6 behind the arc and 9-17 at the free throw line.
- The hosts shot 51.5% and knocked down 13 of their 28 three-point attempts while going 12-16 at the stripe.
- Goucher led in fast break (20-8) and second chance (16-12) points.
- Goucher is home for its final two games of the season, hosting Susquehanna in a 7 pm game on Wednesday at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- The Gophers close out the season next Saturday entertaining Elizabethtown in a 4 pm tilt at Decker.
