River Hawks Push Past Gophers With Hot Shooting

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University placed four players in double figures as it recorded an 89-70 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (2-21, 0-13 Landmark) scored the game's first four points and led 8-4 just under three minutes in following a basket by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg).
- Susquehanna (15-9, 10-3) took its first lead on a conventional three point play a minute later to make it 11-10.
- The lead changed hands two more times before the River Hawks used an 11-0 run to take a 22-12 lead with 12:53 left in the opening frame.
- Goucher cut the lead to eight twice before the guests pulled out to a 39-23 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
- After a Lichti basket made it 43-30 with 4:20 left, the River Hawks scored the next five points to build an 18-point cushion and led 53-35 at the break.
- Susquehanna upped its lead to 21, 59-38, two minutes into the second half.
- After the River Hawks led by as many as 22, Goucher was down 76-56 with 8:55 left when it outscored SU 12-5 to whittle the lead to 13, 8-168, with 4:55 left following a basket by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy).
- Susquehanna countered with eight straight points to push the lead back to 21 with just over two minutes to go.
- Lichti finished 6-9 from the floor and led the Gophers with 15 points as he reached double figures for the third straight game.
- Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recorded 13 points and five rebounds as he reached double figures for the fourth time in five contests and the 17th time this season.
- Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) finished with 10 points off the bench, while Nwankwo recorded nine points.
- Goucher shot 46.8% overall and was 3-11 behind the arc and 9-17 at the free throw line.
- The River Hawks, who held a 42-30 rebounding advantage, shot 54.9% for the game and were 8-12 at the charity stripe and 3-8 behind the arc.
- Goucher closes out its season on Saturday when it hosts Elizabethtown at 4 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Prior to the game, the Gophers will honor lone senior Lichti.
