Gophers Down Elizabethtown on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - Led by Darrell Green's (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) 18 points, the Goucher College men's basketball team placed five players in double figures as it close out the season with a 77-67 Landmark Conference victory over Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Elizabethtown (10-14, 4-10 Landmark) scored the game's first six points before Goucher (3-21, 1-13) got on the board with a steal and dunk by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) at the 17:26 mark.
- Goucher got within one, 17-16, on a three-point play by Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) with 11:42 to go in the opening half.
- The Blue Jays scored the next five points to claim a 22-16 lead midway through the half.
- The Gophers maintained striking distance as a Green basket with 6:43 left before intermission made it 26-24.
- Two free throws by Alex Miller (Manchester, Md./Calvert Hall) with 5:08 on the clock tied the game 28-28.
- After a Green free throw at 4:47 but Goucher ahead 29-28, the two teams traded the lead four times, with a Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) basket putting Goucher in front 33-32 with 3:27 to go.
- Etown closed the half on a 7-2 spurt and led 39-35 at the break.
- Elizabethtown scored the first five points of the second half to open a nine-point cushion, 44-35.
- Goucher countered with six straight points and an Nwankwo basket with 16:15 to go made it 44-41.
- Trailing 57-51, the Gophers scored six straight points to the tie game 57-57 with 9:01 left on a basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie).
- After the Blue Jays took a three-point lead, a Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) three with 7:26 left tied the game 60-60.
- The game was tied two more times before Goucher took a 66-65 lead with just over four minutes to go on two Alex Miller free throws.
- Dylan Rowe scored for Etown with 3:48 left to put the guests up 67-66, but a Green basket 14 seconds later put Goucher back in the lead.
- Lichti nailed a three from the top of the key with 1:53 left to put Goucher in front 71-67, then Lichti blocked a three-point attempt by Etown on the other end.
- Goucher held Elizabethtown scoreless for the game's final 3:48 as it sealed the win by going 6-8 at the free throw line in the final 1:15.
- Green finished 7-11 from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds.
- Alex Miller recorded a career-high 12 points with a perfect shooting performance, going 4-4 from the floor and 4-4 at the free throw line. He also recorded three blocked shots and three rebounds.
- Onterio Miller recorded 12 points off the bench, going 5-9 from the floor.
- Morgan, who ranks second in the conference in minutes per game, logged all 40 minutes Saturday and totaled 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists.
- Lichti, who was honored prior to Saturday's game as the team's lone senior, added 11 points and five rebounds.
- Goucher shot 44.4% overall, was 3-9 behind the arc and 18-25 at the free throw line.
- Etown, which held a 41-39 rebound advantage, shot 41.3% overall, was 4-17 from long range and 11-23 at the charity stripe.
- The Gophers committed just 10 turnovers, their lowest total since January 28 against Scranton.
