River Hawks Pull Away in Second Half in Landmark Opener

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University broke open what had been a three point game at halftime with an early 18-5 second half run en route to a 74-51 win over Goucher College in Landmark Conference men's basketball Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (1-3, 0-1 Landmark) led 5-0 early following a three by Onterio Miller two minutes in.
- Susquehanna (3-2, 1-0) hit back-to-back triples to take a 6-5 lead.
- The Gophers pulled back in front and a dunk by Brandon Joseph at the 12:43 mark put the hosts in front 16-12.
- The River Hawks countered with a 12-2 run and went up 24-18 with 9:30 left before halftime.
- A Jacob Morgan layup capped a 6-0 spurt and tied the game 24-24 with 6:55 on the clock.
- Goucher tied the game twice, the last at 30-30 on a Jaden Workman basket with 3:09 on the clock, but Susquehanna went into intermission with a 34-31 lead.
- Susquehanna went up 37-31 with an early three, but a Miller triple with 16:43 left pulled Goucher back within three, 39-36.
- The River Hawks held Goucher scoreless for over five minutes and a 13-0 run put the guests in front 52-36 with 11:30 to go.
- A fast break layup by Darrell Green seven seconds later ended the Gopher drought.
- Goucher got back within 10, 52-42, with just under nine minutes to go following a basket by Morgan.
- Susquehanna reeled off eight straight points to take a 60-42 lead with just over five minutes left, and the River Hawks led by at least 16 the rest of the way.
- Miller knocked down three threes and led Goucher with 13 points on 5-11 shooting.
- Morgan reached double figures for the fourth straight game to start the season, recording 11 points and dishing out four assists.
- Liech Kong added nine points and grabbed five rebounds.
- Goucher shot 50% (13-26) in the opening 20 minutes and 35.7% for the game, while the River Hawks shot 47.8% for the contest.
- Susquehanna outrebounded Goucher 46-28 and was 5-14 from long range, while the Gophers were 5-19 behind the arc.
- Goucher committed just eight turnovers, its fewest since having just seven against Scranton on January 28 of last season.
- Goucher wraps up its three-game homestand Saturday when it hosts Drew University in a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
