Workman Records Career-High 14 Points, Gophers Held Off by Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Goucher College first year guard Jaden Workman scored a career-best 14 points, but the Gophers fell on the road to Elizabethtown College 76-64 at Thompson Gymnasium Wednesday evening in Landmark Conference men's basketball.
- An early 8-1 Goucher (4-10, 2-5 Landmark) run capped by an Alex Miller basket put the Gophers up 12-7 just under seven minutes into the game.
- The Blue Jays (5-9, 2-5) countered with 13 straight points to build a 20-12 lead at the 8:59 mark.
- A Liech Kong three with 7:30 to go before intermission halted the Gopher scoring drought.
- A Can Dalli three with 6:16 remaining cut the lead to three, 21-18.
- Elizabethtown embarked on an 11-0 run to build a 32-18 lead with 2:21 on the clock and carried a 32-21 lead into halftime.
- Goucher came out firing with eight straight points to open the second half and a Jacob Morgan basket with 18:13 to go cut the lead to three, 32-29.
- Etown responded with six straight points to make it a 38-29 game with 16:19 on the clock.
- The Gophers whittled the lead to four twice, the second time at 40-36 with just over 14 minutes left on a Brandon Joseph layup.
- An 8-0 spurt by the hosts put the Blue Jays in front 58-44 with 10:18 to go.
- Down 61-46, the Gophers chipped away and got the lead to five, 66-61, with just under four minutes left on a Workman triple.
- Elizabethtown scored the next six points and went 6-6 at the free throw line in the final minute to seal the victory.
- Workman finished 4-7 from the floor, including 2-3 from three, and 4-5 at the free throw line en route to his career-high, his second double-digit scoring effort of the season.
- Kong knocked down three three-pointers and tallied 13 points and five rebounds.
- Morgan filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals. The sophomore also drew nine fouls and went 6-8 at the free throw line.
- Dalli and Onterio Miller each knocked down two threes and added six points apiece.
- Elizabethtown took 16 more trips to the free throw line than Goucher, going 22-31 while the Gophers were 10-15 at the line.
- The Blue Jays shot 48.1% for the game and were 4-15 behind the arc while outrebounding the guests by one, 40-39.
- Goucher shot 34.4% overall and knocked down 10 of its 32 three-point attempts.
- Etown outscored Goucher 36-22 in the paint and held an 18-6 lead in fast break points. The Gophers generated a 19-6 advantage in second chance points, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds.
- Goucher is back in action Friday afternoon, hosting Lycoming in a 2 pm Landmark Conference matchup at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
