No. 20 Cardinals Fly Away For Eighth Straight Win

TOWSON, Md. - No. 20 Catholic University extended its win streak to eight games as it pulled away in the second half for a 95-53 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center Wednesday evening.
- Catholic (14-2, 8-1 Landmark) built an early 18-11 lead just over eight minutes into the game.
- Goucher (5-11, 3-6) cut the lead to five twice, the second on a Brandon Joseph dunk at the 7:47 mark that made it 20-15.
- The Cardinals held the Gophers without a field goal for nearly five minutes and opened up to a 34-16 lead with 2:26 to go before halftime.
- A three by Liech Kong snapped the Goucher drought.
- A Kong basket with 25 seconds remaining made the score 38-23 at intermission.
- Goucher scored the first five points of the second half, with a Jacob Morgan layup on the opening possession and a Darrell Green three making it 38-28 47 seconds in.
- The guests used an 8-2 spurt to build the lead back to 16, 46-30, with 15:38 to play.
- Up 54-40, Catholic outscored Goucher 14-2 in a span of just under three minutes to stake claim to a 68-42 lead with 9:20 on the clock.
- The Cardinals continued to pull away and led by as many as 43 down the stretch.
- First year Jaden Workman put in a career-best 17 points, going 6-9 from the floor and 4-5 at the free throw line for his third double-digit scoring effort of the season. He also finished with four rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Kong was the other Gopher in double figures, as he went 5-11 from the floor, including 2-3 behind the arc, en route to 13 points.
- Morgan finished with nine points and grabbed six rebounds.
- Goucher shot 32.8% overall, was 4-17 behind the arc and 9-14 at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals, who outrebounded the Gophers 46-27, shot 60.6% in the second half and 54.7% for the game. They went 12-29 behind the arc and 13-14 at the stripe.
- Goucher committed 11 turnovers, its second-lowest number of the season.
- Goucher hits the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Drew University for a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home on Saturday, January 27, hosting Scranton in a 2 pm game at the Decker SRC.
