Gophers Rally From 27 Down to Force OT at Drew

MADISON, N.J. - Visititng Goucher College trailed 74-47 with just under 13 minutes remaining in Saturday's Landmark Conference men's basketball contest at Drew University before outscoring the Rangers 42-15 in the remainder of regulation. A three by Onterio Miller as time expired forced overtime, but the hosts prevailed 102-96 at Baldwin Gymnasium in the extra session.
- Drew (14-3, 7-3 Landmark) jumped out to an 11-3 lead 3:22 into the contest.
- Goucher (5-12, 3-7) cut the lead to five, 14-9, on two Darrell Green free throws with just over 14 minutes left in the first half.
- The Rangers opened up a 27-13 lead midway through the half.
- With 8:52 left Goucher got the lead down to eight before a 10-0 Drew run made it 38-20 with 5:47 on the clock.
- The hosts led by as many as 25 and went into the locker room up 54-33.
- A steal and basket by Drew with 13:25 on the clock gave the Rangers their largest lead, 74-47.
- Down 76-49, Goucher scored 10 straight points and a Brandon Joseph layup made it 76-59 with 9:49 to go.
- The Gophers kept chipping away and a Jon Perry three made it 79-69 with 6:27 remaining.
- A 7-1 spurt capped by a Jacob Morgan free throw got Drew's lead down to four, 85-81, with 2:33 on the clock.
- Goucher pulled within three, 87-84, on an old-fashioned three-point play by Liech Kong with just under a minute left.
- After a Drew turnover, a Miller basket made it 87-86 with 25 seconds to go.
- Goucher fouled and the Rangers sank two free throws with 12 seconds left.
- After a timeout and with time winding down, Morgan found Miller in the right corner for an open look at a three, which he knocked down to force overtime.
- Drew scored the first seven points of the extra session to build a 96-89 lead with 2:36 left.
- Jaden Workman had Goucher's first basket of OT with 2:12 to go to make it 96-91.
- Two free throws by Miller with 37 seconds to go made it 96-93, but the Rangers went 6-6 at the free throw line the rest of the way to seal the win.
- Goucher shot a blistering 73.3% (22-30) over the final 20 minutes of regulation, including making all three of its three-point attempts, and finished at 51.5% for the afternoon (3-13 3PT). The Gophers were 25-40 at the free throw line.
- Drew, which outrebounded Goucher 48-36, shot 44.6% overall, was 14-35 from three and 22-26 at the charity stripe.
- The Gophers outscored the Rangers 54-34 in the paint and 32-27 on fast breaks.
- Morgan led four Gophers in double figures with a season-high 23 points, going 8-15 from the floor and 7-8 at the free throw line. He also had six assists and four steals.
- Workman posted a career high for the second straight game and third time in four contests with 20 points on 7-12 shooting and 6-8 at the free throw line. He grabbed six rebounds.
- Green added 19 points, going 6-10 overall and 6-9 at the free throw line, while Kong added 13 points and five boards.
- Miller registered nine points off the bench.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday, hosting Moravian in a 7 pm Landmark Conference matchup at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
