Gophers Close Out Home Slate With Big Win on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Brandon Joseph finished 7-7 from the field and put in a career-best 18 points as the Goucher College men's basketball team closed out its home schedule with a 75-58 Landmark Conference victory over Juniata College Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. The win keeps the Gophers in the thick of the race for a Landmark Conference playoff spot.
- Goucher (9-14, 7-9 Landmark) opened a 9-2 lead three minutes into the game following two Jaden Workman free throws.
- A 15-3 Gopher spurt capped by a Darnell Morris Jr. three-pointer with just under 11 minutes left in the first made it a 29-12 game.
- Juniata (13-10, 9-7) whittled the lead down to 12, 32-21, with 6:07 on the clock.
- Eight straight Goucher points capped by a conventional three-point play by Joseph pushed the lead back to 19, 40-21, with 3:44 left before intermission.
- The Gophers took a 43-25 lead into the locker room.
- Onterio Miller had two three-pointers in the first minute of the second half as Goucher increased its lead to 51-29.
- The Eagles worked the lead down to 15, 53-38, with 13:05 to go on a Chase Husted layup.
- Back-to-back threes by Morris and Can Dalli made it a 63-40 game with 9:29 remaining.
- Two straight dunks by Joseph gave Goucher its biggest lead, 72-48, with 4:40 left.
- Juniata scored the game's final six points.
- Joseph paced four players in double figures, as he was 7-7 from the floor and 4-5 at the free throw line en route to his career-high 18. He also grabbed seven rebounds and had a pair of steals. He reached double figures in scoring for the third straight game.
- Jacob Morgan had his seventh straight double digit scoring outing, finishing with 14 points while matching his career high with nine rebounds. Morgan was 5-9 from the floor and also had five assists.
- Miller knocked down a pair of three-pointers and added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals.
- Darrell Green also hit two threes and added 11 points, five boards and three steals.
- Morris chipped in with nine points.
- Goucher outrebounded Juniata 44-33 and shot 47.3% for the game, was 7-20 from three and 16-24 at the free throw line.
- Juniata shot 33.3% overall, was 0-12 from three in the second half and 2-21 for the game from three while going 18-29 at the free throw line.
- Goucher's seven Landmark Conference victories are a program record.
- Goucher finishes the season 7-5 at home, including 6-3 in Landmark play and winners of four straight and six of its final seven home games. The seven home wins are Goucher's most since 2004-05.
- The win kept the Gophers in sixth place in the Landmark standings a game ahead of Elizabethtown, which nipped Wilkes in overtime. Goucher sits two games behind Juniata for fifth with two games left.
- Prior to the game, Goucher honored seniors Joseph, Miller, Mal Graham, Josiah Gregg and Frank Pena.
- Goucher closes the regular season with two road games, starting with Wednesday night's trip to league-leading Catholic for a 7 pm tip.
