Buttner, Gallegos Go Low, Gophers in Thick of It at The Kiln Intercollegiate
WASHINGTON, N.J. - Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) and Jose Maria Gallegos (Ahome, Mexico/Montverde Academy) each shot season-low 73s for the Goucher College men's golf team in the first round of The Kiln Intercollegiate at Hawk Pointe Golf Club on Saturday. As a team, the Gophers posted a season-low 12-over 300, placing them fifth, but just six shots back of tournament co-leaders Drew University and Farmingdale State University.
Buttner and Gallegos are two of four players tied for sixth. Buttner finished with just two bogeys and one birdie during his round, while Gallegos carded three bogeys and a pair of birdies.
Nick Fisher (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) sits tied for 15th with a 76, while Matias Agrendo Lovo (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola) carded a 78 as Goucher's fourth scorer.
Tim Winter (Howey In The Hills, Groningen / Harens Lyceum) finished at 80, while Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) shot an 81.
Goucher tees off at noon for Sunday's second and final round.
