Gallegos Finishes Third, Gophers Place Fifth at Battle at the Burg
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - Led by a third-place finish by sophomore Jose Maria Gallegos (Ahome, Mexico / Montverde Academy), the Goucher College men's golf team place fifth out of eight schools at the Battle at the Burg hosted by Gettysburg College Sunday and Monday. The Gophers shot a 314 on Sunday and followed up with a 305 on Monday, tying for the second-lowest score on day two. The host Bullets took first with a 597 over the two days.
Gallegos shot a four-over 75 on Sunday then finished one-over on Monday to move into third. His 72 was tied for the low round of day two as he finished one shot behind Daniel Suter and Corey Haydu of Gettysburg.
Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) shot two straight 77s to finish at 154 and in a tie for 13th. Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) improved four shots on Monday for a 76 and a two-day score of 156, while first year Andy Garcia (A Coruña Galicia, Spain / Colegio Plurilingüe Compañia de María) finished at 162, posting an 80 on Monday. Kaman Wilkinson (Granbury, Texas / Godley) fired an 82 on Sunday and finished at 171 for the tournament.
Goucher is back in action Sunday, September 25 when it travels to the one-day Wilson College Fall Invitational at Greencastle Golf Club in Greencastle, Pa.
