Gophers Earn Third Place Finish at Wilson
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Led by a ninth-place finish by Jose Maria Gallegos (Ahome, Mexico/Montverde Academy), the Goucher College men's golf team placed third out of eight teams at the Wilson College Invitational Sunday and Monday at Greencastle Golf Course.
The Gophers carded a 301 on Sunday and posted a 327 on Monday to finish at 628. Sunday's 301 is tied for the seventh-best single day score in the history of the program.
Gallegos carded a one-under 71 on Sunday, matching his career best, and an 81 on Monday to finish at 152 for the tournament and tie for ninth.
Tim Winter (Howey In The Hills, Groningen / Harens Lyceum) finished at 156 for the two days, including a 74 on Sunday, to place 15th. Winter's 74 was a career-best.
Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) placed 20th at 160 including a 77 on Sunday. Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) finished at 165 over two days, improving three shots to record an 81 on Monday. Andy Garcia (A Coruña Galicia, Spain / Colegio Plurilingüe Compañia de María) opened with a 79 and finished at 167 overall.
Goucher is idle until October 15-16 when it competes in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, Md.
