Gallegos, Gophers Place Third at Cardinal Classic
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Sophomore Jose Maria Gallegos (Ahome, Mexico/Montverde Academy) finished third overall to lead the Goucher College men's golf team to a third place finish at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Catholic University Saturday and Sunday at Black Rock Golf Club. The Gophers posted a 308 on Saturday and a 305 on Sunday for a two-day total of 613.
Franklin & Marshall took first at 589, while the host Cardinals finished second at 605.
Gallegos shot a four-over 76 on Saturday, then followed up with an even-par 72 for a 148 to place third, with his 72 on Sunday the second-lowest score of the round. He finished four shots back of F&M's Roy Anderson for medalist honors. Gallegos finished Sunday's round with four birdies.
Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) fired a 73 on Sunday to finish at 151 over two rounds, tying him for eighth overall. Buttner recorded three straight birdies on holes 14-16.
Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) finished 12th after posting a 76 on Saturday and a two-day total of 155. Tim Winter (Howey In The Hills, Groningen / Harens Lyceum) carded a 78 in round one and finished at 160 for the tournament, while Andy Garcia (A Coruña Galicia, Spain / Colegio Plurilingüe Compañia de María) finished at 163 to round out the Goucher finishers.
The Goucher men's golf B-team competes at the Franklin & Marhshall Invitational on Monday, while the Gophers close out the fall at the Landmark Preview on Friday and Satuday.
