Buttner Leads Gophers at Sandhills Splash to Open Spring
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - Junior Khai Buttner (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin) led the Goucher College men's golf team at the Sandhills Splash at Longleaf Golf Club Tuesday and Wednesday, posting a two-day score of 159 to finish tied for sixth. As a team the Gophers finished fourth with a two-day score of 652, recording back-to-back rounds of 326.
Buttner was tied for second after Tuesday's opening round with a 77 and carded an 82 on Wednesday on the par-72 layout. It marks Buettner's second top-10 finish of the season.
Gidi Katz (White Plains, N.Y./Leffell School) shot a career-best 78 on Wednesday and finished at 161 over two days to finish ninth overall. Evan Yue (Beijing, China/IMG Academy), playing in his first tournament for the Gophers since October of 2019, shot 81 on Tuesday and 82 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 163.
Andy Garcia (A Coruña Galicia, Spain / Colegio Plurilingüe Compañia de María) recorded an 84 Wednesday and 169 over two days to place tied for 18th, while Miguel Reider (Mexico City, Mexico / Tecnológico de Monterrey) shot back-to-back rounds of 86 to place 21st.
The Goucher men's golf team returns to action March 18-19 when it competes in The Ruckus at Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.
