Garcia Shoots 71 Monday, Gophers Slot Sixth at Golden Oaks
FLEETWOOD, Pa. - Led by sophomore Andy Garcia's second round 71, the Goucher College men's golf team placed sixth out of 12 teams at the Golden Oaks Shootout hosted by Arcadia University Sunday and Monday at Golden Oaks Golf Club. The Gophers posted a two-day score of 615, including a 301 on Monday. The 301 is tied for the eighth-lowest team round in program history.
Garcia, who's 71 is tied for the program's seventh-lowest round, had three bogeys and four birdies in Monday's second round. He finished at 149 for the tournament to tie for ninth with Shawn McKnerney of the host Knights.
Evan Yue tied for 15th after shooting a 75 on Sunday and finishing at 152 for the tournament. Khai Buttner fired back-to-back 77s to finish at 154 and tie for 25th in the 60-player field.
Riley Ruby shot 76 on Monday and finished at 161 for the two days, while Mikolaj Pula shot 78 Monday and finished the tournament at 162.
The Goucher B team competes at the Drew Birdie Bash on Thursday, while the Gophers compete at Gettysburg's Mason-Dixon Collegiate Saturday and Sunday.
