Gophers Post Record Round, Move Up to Fourth at Landmark Championship
SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. - Using a program-record five-over 293, the Goucher College men's golf team moved up one spot to finish in fourth place out of 10 teams at the 2024 Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championship at Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on Sunday. Combined with Saturday's opening round 311, the Gophers finished at 604 for the tournament.
The University of Scranton rallied past Drew University to take the title, with the Royals finishing at 587 and the Rangers at 589. Catholic University (600) was fifth, with Moravian University (609) rounding out the top five.
Goucher's round broke its previous low round of 295 set last season at Catholic's spring invitational and tied last week at the Stevenson Spring Invitational. The Gophers finish the season with a 308.1 stroke average, breaking the program record of 310.5 set in 2019-20.
Goucher had four of its five players tie for 10th with two-day totals of 151 to earn Landmark Second Team All-Conference honors. Graduate student Evan Yue and first year Riley Ruby each shot even-par 72 on Sunday. Yue closed out his college career with three birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 492-yard sixth hole during his round. Ruby also eagled the sixth and came out firing with two birdies and an eagle in the first six holes. He finished with four birdies in his round.
Yue's 75.5 scoring average this season gives him the third-lowest single average in program history and he now owns two of the top five single-season averages. He also finishes his career with the second-lowest scoring average in program history at 77.7.
Senior Khai Buttner closed out his career with a two-over 74, recording a pair of birdies and four bogeys on his loop. Andy Hill Garcia, who led the Gophers with a 76 in Saturday's opening round, finished with a three-over 75 on Sunday, posting four birdies.
Yue and Buttner each earn Landmark All-Conference for the third time in their careers, with Buttner earning Second Team accolades for the third straight season. Garcia and Ruby each earn All-Conference kudos for the first time.
Mikolaj Pula improved by five shots on Sunday to card a 79 and finish at 163 for the tournament to tie for 37th.
Goucher posted its best finish at the Landmark Championship since winning the conference's first three titles from 2018-20.
