Bio

Matt Shur was named head coach of the Goucher men's and women's golf programs in August, 2022.

In Shur's first season (2022-23), he guided the Goucher women's program to a third-place finish at the Landmark Conference Championship while two players earned Second Team All-Conference honors.  For the men, Khai Buttner earned Landmark Second Team All-Conference for the second straight season.

Shur enjoyed a stellar four-year career at Stevenson University playing for head coach Chris Ramer.  He ranks seventh in program history with a career scoring average of 78.8.  In 2018 Shur earned MAC Commonwealth First Team All-Conference honors as he finished tied for third at the conference championship to lead the Mustangs to their third straight MAC Commonwealth title.  Shur was also a MAC Commonwealth Second Team performer as a freshman in 2017, placing ninth.  During his career, Stevenson captured three straight MAC Commonwealth titles from 2017-19 before the 2020 conference championship was cancelled in Shur's senior season.  Shur was a two-time team MVP for head coach Chris Ramer.

As a senior Shur earned DIII Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors and was also a Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team member in 2018.

Shur comes to Goucher from Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale, Pennsylvania, where he served as the assistant golf professional since 2021.  Prior to that, he worked as assistant pro shop manager at Talamore Country Club in Ambler, Pennsylvania.

"I can not wait to bring an exciting style of coaching to our golf program, and elevate our student athletes to their highest standards. My goal is to keep the game fun, excel in the classroom and get 1% better everyday. The journey to be great begins today," said Shur.

A native of Glenside, Pennsylvania, Shur graduated from Stevenson in 2020 with a degree in Business Administration.
