Goucher Athletics Announces Ruth Baird Thompson '31 Male Award Winner
BALTIMORE, Md. – Jared Halverson (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan), a member of the Goucher College men's lacrosse team, has been named the Ruth Baird Thompson '31 Male Award winner.
The Ruth Baird Thompson '31 Award was established in 2002 and presented annually to one or more students who have demonstrated academic excellence and sportsmanship in an athletic endeavor, through their participation in Goucher's sports, dance, and/or equestrian programs.
"Congratulations to Jared on being named a Ruth Baird Thompson Award winner," said men's lacrosse head coach Brian Kelly. "You have demonstrated academic excellence as well as sportsmanship in your time at Goucher. Through it all, you have been a model for Goucher lacrosse and the Goucher community.
Halverson is majoring in communications with a 3.35-grade point average. He will be named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor for the second time in his career in 2021. Halverson appeared in 21 games with seven starts, nine goals, two assists, and 11 points in his two seasons. He posted a career-high two markers on three occasions. Halverson was elected a team captain in 2020-21 and is a volunteer coach for youth lacrosse players in North Carolina.
"It's a real honor to win the Ruth Baird Thompson Award," said Halverson. "It has been fun to play here for three years even though the crazy stuff. It would not have been as good of a time without my teammates. It's a big honor, and I hope I can live up to it my senior year."
Along with Halverson, Zach LaFaver (Hanover, Md./South Western) (men's soccer) and Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) (men's basketball) were also nominated.
