Eagles Fly Away From Gophers After Halftime

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Mary Washington outscored Goucher College in the third quarter 7-1 en route to a 16-4 non-conference men's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Mary Washington (5-3) outshot Goucher (9-5) 9-5 in the opening 15 minutes but neither team found the back of the net.
- Goucher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made five saves, while Eagle counterpart Riley Green made one.
- UMW opened the scoring on a Cameron Walker goal 2:12 into the second quarter.
- The Eagles reeled off four goals in a span of 4:31 to take a 4-0 lead with 7:17 left before halftime.
- Jared Heath (Windham, N.H./New Hampton) got the Gophers on the board when he went top shelf with just over five minutes left in the half.
- The guests carried a 4-1 lead into intermission.
- Mary Washington capitalized on an early two-minute non-releasable Goucher penalty, scoring three times to take a 7-1 lead with 12:20 left in the quarter.
- Jared Halverson (Durham, N.C./Charles E. Jordan) halted the Eagle run with a goal on an assist by Heath at the 10:41 mark.
- UMW scored four times in the final 8:06 of the quarter to take an 11-2 lead on a J.D. Nozemack goal with 10 seconds left in the frame.
