Nichols Rallies Past Gophers in Second Half

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Nichols College rallied from an 11-8 halftime deficit to post a 15-12 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Nichols (6-2) scored two goals in a 45-second span to take a 2-0 lead with 9:04 left in the opening quarter.
- Goucher (2-6) got on the board at the 6:18 mark as Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored to halve the Bison lead.
- Nichols scored three more times in the quarter and a Cian Keohane goal with 1:00 on the clock put the guests up 5-1 after one.
- Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) scored on a man-up situation for the Gophers at the 13:04 mark, with Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) assisting.
- After a Bison goal 13 seconds later, Sam Stewart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) responded at the 11:54 mark to make it 6-3.
- Nichols scored with 11:20 left before halftime as Hunter Ferreira scored his third of the game.
- Goucher reeled off seven straight goals starting with a Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) goal at 10:21 to take a 10-7 lead.
- Back-to-back man up goals by Sean Nolan (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) and Smith put Goucher in the lead, 7-6, with 8:22 left before halftime.
- Morgan had two goals during the run, including the last at 3:08, while Smith and Temple also scored.
- Nichols halted the run at 2:39, but a Smith goal assisted by Morgan with 32 seconds on the clock put Goucher in front 11-8 at the break.
- Nichols scored all three goals in the third period to tie the game 11-11.
- A Keohane goal 5:10 into the quarter made it 11-9, with the Bison pulling within one on a man-up goal at the 8:01 mark.
- A goal with 5:43 left in the frame tied the game.
- Keohane gave Nichols its first lead of the second half with 10:06 remaining.
- The Bison scored the first four goals of the final frame to build a 15-11 lead with 3:44 left.
- Morgan ended Goucher's scoring drought with 1:14 left, the game's final goal.
- Nichols outshot Goucher 57-27 and won 18 of the game's 30 faceoffs.
- Goucher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) recorded 15 saves and moved into fourth place in program history in career saves with 602.
- Morgan and Smith paced Goucher with four goals apiece, with Morgan recording two assists and Smith one.

- Goucher's 10 goals in the second quarter were the most in a quarter since scoring 12 in the opening quarter of a 30-2 win over the University of Dallas on February 19, 2012.
