Gophers Roll At Home for Second Straight Conference Win

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's lacrosse team held visiting Drew scoreless in the second half to win their second straight Landmark Conference win Saturday on Beldon Field by a score of 12-4.
- Goucher (5-7, 2-1 Landmark) scored the first five goals of the game to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) opened the scoring for the Gophers just two minutes into the game.
- Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Sam Stewart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) also scored in the first. Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored twice in the quarter, one coming off a Morgan assist.
- Mike Demayo scored the final goal of the quarter off a feed from Ian Curley to get the Rangers (5-7, 0-3) on the board.
- Smith and Morgan connected twice in the first 1:54 of the second quarter to put Goucher up 7-1.
- The first Smith goal 50 seconds in was a man-up tally.
- Drew rattled off three straight to end the half down 7-4 with contributions from Parker Wills, Jordan Wilson, and DeMayo.
- The thrid quarter was a defensive struggle as only Morgan scored for the Gophers at the 05:28 mark.
- Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, he benefitted from feeds from Smith and Morgan.
- Morgan continued his scoring day with his third goal of the game at the 4:11 mark
- Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) capped off a strong day for the Gophers with the final goal from Morgan at the two minute mark.
- Goucher outshot Drew 38-31 and won 10 of the game's 19 faceoffs.
- Smith led the Gophers offensively with four goals and two assists, while Morgan finished with three goals and six assists.
- With 24 assists in 11 games, Morgan ranks third in the Landmark in assists per game.
- Gopher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) stopped 16 of the 20 shots he faced for an 80% save percentage.
- Lugo has stopped 31 of 40 shots over Goucher's last two games.
- Sean Nolan (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) and Kyle Ramos (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) each had three of Goucher's seven caused turnovers on the afternoon.
- Ramos also paced the Gophers with five ground balls.
- The four goals allowed Saturday are the fewest allowed by the Gophers in a conference game since a 10-4 win over Susquehanna on April 15, 2017.
- Goucher is on the road Wednesday as they travel down to Washington D.C. to face Landmark Conference rival Catholic in a 7 pm contest.
- The Gophers final home game is Saturday, April 22 when they host Susquehanna for Senior Day at Beldon Field at 1 pm.
