Cardinals Outlast Gophers 13-5.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University remained unbeaten in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse play with a 13-5 win over visiting Goucher College Wednesday evening at Carlini Field.
- The Cardinals (5-6, 4-0 Landmark) jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 15 minutes.
- Catholic's first two goals came 1:51 apart to go up 2-0 at the 6:50 mark.
- A third Cardinal goal came with 1:43 on the clock.
- Catholic outshot Goucher (5-8, 2-2) 13-5 in the first, with Gopher goalie Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) making five saves.
- The hosts extended their lead to 4-0 eight seconds into the second quarter.
- Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) got Goucher on the board with an unassisted goal with 13:09 left in the second.
- After a Cardinal man-up goal, Morgan scored again 5:27 before intermission to make it a 5-2 game.
- Connor Pierce scored for Catholic 1:19 before the break to make it 6-2 at halftime.
- A goal by Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishp Curley) 6:20 into the second half made it a 7-3 game.
- Catholic reeled off three goals in the final 8:18 of the third to build a 10-3 lead.
- Morgan scored 3:24 into the final frame to make it a 10-4 contest.
- Catholic scored the next two goals before Theo Cook IV (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) scored off a feed from Morgan with 1:50 left.
- A Cardinal goal with 18 seconds remaining accounted for the final.
- Catholic held a 46-20 shot advantage on the evening and a 17-4 lead at the faceoff dot.
- Lugo finished with nine saves.
- Morgan finished with his third straight three goal game and his sixth multi-goal game of the season. He has scored in six straight games.
- Smith extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games and he has scored in all but one game this season.
- Dwayne Barnes, Jr. (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) had a team-high four caused turnovers on the evening and also picked up five ground balls.
- Kyle Ramos (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase), Ethan Pratt (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) and Nick Gambone (Norristown, Pa./LaSalle College) all had two caused turnovers apiece.
- Goucher held Catholic to its lowest scoring output in a Landmark Conference regular season game since the Cardinals suffered an 11-8 setback to Susquehanna on April 18, 2019.
- The Cardinals have won 17 straight regular season conference matchups.
- Goucher travels to Scranton on Saturday at 1 pm for a Landmark Conference matchup.
- The Gophers return home Saturday, April 22, hosting Susquehanna at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
