Gophers Fall to Susquehanna on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University scored eight times in the second quarter as it ultimately posted a 21-5 Landmark Conference men's lacrosse victory over Goucher College on Goucher's Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Susquehanna (7-9, 4-2 Landmark) opened the scoring 6:19 into the game.
- The Gophers (5-10, 2-4) tied the game at the 6:33 mark at Theo Cook IV (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) scored off a feed from Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie).
- Just under a minute later the River Hawks scored to take a 2-1 lead.
- Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) converted a man-up opportunity with 2:42 left to tie the game 2-2, with Morgan again assisting.
- The River Hawks scored seven seconds into the second quarter to reclaim the lead.
- Susquehanna reeled off eight straight goals to build a 10-2 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the half.
- Goucher scored its second man-up goal of the game 1:33 before intermission as Milan Temple (Joppatowne, Md./Concordia Prep) scored, with Morgan registering his third assist of the game.
- SU took a 10-3 lead into halftime.
- Susquehanna scored the firs three goals of the second half to build a 13-3 lead.
- Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored with 5:02 left in the quarter for the Gophers.
- The River Hawks scored two man-up goals in the final 1:56 to lead 15-4 through three.
- After Susquehanna scored the first two goals of the fourth, Morgan notched his first goal of the game with 8:06 remaining.
- The River Hawks scored four times in the final 7:36, including a pair of man-up tallies.
- Susquehanna outshot Goucher 51-23 and won 23 of 29 faceoffs in the game.
- Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrews School) made 15 saves and passed the 700-save mark for his career. He now sits just six saves shy of second place on Goucher's all-time list.
- Smith extended his goal scoring streak to 10 games and now sits three points shy of 100 for his career.
- Morgan extended his goal streak to eight games and recorded multiple assists for the sixth time this season.
- Dwayne Barnes, Jr. (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) had a pair of caused turnovers for Goucher.
- Prior to the game, the Gophers honored seven seniors: Lugo, Smith, Eric Conaway, Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit), Elan Hedges (Boston, Mass./Putney School), Oscar Hernandez-Genovez (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard), Kyle Ramos (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) and Sam Stewart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico).
- Goucher closes out its season next Saturday on the road, traveling to Moravian for a 1 pm Landmark contest.
