Gophers Close Season with Tight Loss at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In the season finale for both teams, host Moravian University eked out an 8-5 Landmark Conference men's lacrosse win over Goucher College at Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.
- Moravian (7-8, 3-4 Landmark) got on the board midway through the first on a Connor James man-up goal. Aaron Judge assisted on the tally.
- The Gophers (5-11, 2-5) tied the game 1-1 as Sam Stewart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored.
- Goucher took a 2-1 lead as Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) scored with 1:42 left in the period.
- James scored at 9:37 and again with 5:45 remaining to put the Greyhounds up 3-2.
- Stewart found the back of the net for the second time with eight seconds left on a feed from behind the goal by Jack McDermott (Wilmington, Del./The White Mountain School) to tie things 3-3 at intermission.
- Dylan White (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) scored 1:54 into the second half to put Goucher back in front 4-3.
- Moravian scored three times in a span of 3:35 to pull out to a 6-4 lead.
- Aden Moskovitz extended Moravian's lead to 7-4 on his unassisted goal with 10:12 to go.
- The visitors cut the lead to two with 5:57 on the clock as Ben Smith (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored on a feed from Morgan to make it 7-5.
- Judge scored just under a minute later as the Greyhounds reclaimed a three-goal cushion.
- Moravian held a 37-32 shot advantage and won 11 of the game's 16 faceoffs.
- Justin Lugo (Davie, Fla./Saint Andrew's School) made 16 saves for the Gophers and moved into second place on Goucher's career saves list with 719. He trails only Michael Amash who had 762 saves from 1999-2002.
- Stewart finished with two goals, while Morgan tallied a goal and an assist.
- Morgan's team-high 29 assists and 57 points are the most by a Gopher in a season since Owen Demmerly finished with 29 assists and 60 points in 2016.
- Smith finished the season with 51 goals, the most since Zephan Harnish's 32 in 2019.
- Kyle Ramos (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) had a pair of caused turnovers for Goucher while Smith and Lugo each had a team-best five ground balls.
