Balanced Attack Leads Gophers to Third Straight Win
Seven different players scored as men's lacrosse downed Neumann.

TOWSON, Md. - Seven different players scored for the Goucher College men's lacrosse team as the Gophers won their third straight Wednesday night, defeating Neumann University 14-8 at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (4-1) had the game's first two goals, as Jacob Morgan scored at the 6:41 mark and James Dugan scored with 1:08 left in the quarter.
- Neumann (4-2) scored with just under a minute left to cut the lead to 2-1 after one quarter.
- The Knights scored twice 37 seconds apart to go up 3-2 with 12:09 left in the second quarter.
- Holden Vance scored with just under 10 minutes on the clock to tie the game.
- Goucher took a 4-3 lead on a Kevin Gearhart tally just over a minute later, with Dugan assisting.
- Neumann scored the final two goals of the first half to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
- Tyler May's unassisted goal a minute into the third tied the game 5-5.
- Neumann retook the lead on a Connor Hurley goal at 11:22.
- Goucher reeled off five straight goals to build a 10-6 lead with 3:09 remaining.
- The run saw goals by five different players, including man-up goals by Jack McDermott and May. Vance assisted on both extra-man tallies.
- After Hurley scored to cut the lead to 10-7, Gearhart and McDermott scored in the final 1:16 to give the Gophers a 12-7 lead after three.
- The Knights cut the lead to 12-8 1:25 into the fourth.
- After a McDermott goal at 11:50, a man-up goal, Goucher's third of the night, was scored by Theo Cook IV with 3:30 on the clock.
- Goucher outshot Neumann 34-25 on the evening.
- Gearhart and McDermott led the Gophers with three goals apiece.
- Dugan recorded two goals and three assists, while Morgan had two goals and an assist.
- May also scored twice, while Vance notched three assists to go with his goal.
- Sean Nolan recorded four caused turnovers and had three ground balls on the evening.
- Jack Smith made seven saves in goal for the Gophers over the first 57:30, before Jaden Algarin played the final 2:30 in goal.
- Neumann goalie Owen Avelar made five saves.
- The Gophers, who came into the game ranked fourth nationally in man-up offense (.667), scored on all three of their man-up chances, while the Knights were 0-5 with the man advantage.
- Goucher's three-game win streak is its longest since the 2020 season. The Gophers' 4-1 start is their best since opening 6-1 in 2016.
- The Gophers have come back from one-goal halftime deficits in each of the last three games, outscoring their opponents 17-5 in the third quarter of those wins.
- Goucher continues its homestand Saturday, entertaining Albright in a 1 pm non-league game at Beldon Field.
