Gophers Score Season-High 15 in Win over DelVal

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's lacrosse team put in a season-high 15 goals as it downed Delaware Valley University 15-7 Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- The Aggies (2-4) took a 1-0 lead 3:44 into the contest.
- Holden Vance put Goucher (6-2) on the board at the 9:23 mark, with Jack McDermott assisting.
- Just over two minutes later, McDermott found the back of the net to put the Gophers in front.
- Jacob Morgan scored at the 4:39 mark off an assist from James Dugan.
- DelVal cut the lead to 3-2 on Jack Sprinkle's goal with 52 seconds on the clock.
- Delaware Valley tied the game 3-3 on Kieran Schneider's goal with 12:36 to go before halftime.
- Dugan's second goal of the day put Goucher in front for good at the 10:53 mark.
- The Gophers scored three times in a span of 1:57 to build a 7-3 halftime lead.
- Dugan scored off a Morgan pass at the 3:24 mark, followed by a McDermott scoop goal with 2:06 left.
- Vance closed out the first half scoring with an unassisted tally at 1:27.
- The Aggies won the opening faceoff and scored eight seconds into the second half to make it 7-4.
- Just under two minutes later, Tyler May scored his first goal of the game, followed by a Dugan tally 33 seconds later.
- Goals by McDermott at 6:46 and Morgan at 4:43 extended Goucher's lead to 11-4.
- After an Aggie goal, Dugan and Morgan scored in the final 1:12 to make it 13-5 with 15 minutes left.
- Morgan scored 49 seconds into the final frame, with May assisting.
- The Aggies scored twice 52 seconds apart to make it 14-7 with 6:36 left.
- Theo Cook IV closed out the scoring with 3:11 remaining.
- Morgan and Dugan each finished with four goals and an assist, with Dugan also recording a pair of caused turnovers.
- Morgan extended his goal scoring streak dating back to last season to 15 games.
- McDermott notched three goals and an assist, whle Vance recorded two goals and an assist.
- The Gophers had 17 caused turnovers on the game, led by Sean Nolan's five. He also picked up six ground balls.
- David Vucci and Aaron Butera also had two caused turnovers apiece.
- Butera finished 13-24 at the faceoff dot and recorded nine ground balls. Goucher won 15 of the game's 26 faceoffs.
- Cole Smith added four ground balls for Goucher.
- Goucher held a 52-22 shot advantage on the day. Jack Smith made four saves over the first three quarters in goal for the Gophers, while Jaden Algarin made five saves in the fourth.
- DelVal goalie Jim Murphy made 20 saves.
- Goucher's 6-2 start is its best since 2016, while its six wins to date are the most in a season since 2018.
- Goucher opens Landmark Conference play next Saturday when it travels to preseason favorite Elizabethtown for a 1 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Thursday, March 28 when they host defending league champion Scranton in a 7 pm game at Beldon Field.
