SALISBURY, Md. - Although Goucher never did manage to break through and get a win over Salisbury during its stay in the Capital Athletic Conference, recent history suggested that the Gophers could play at the same level as the Sea Gulls. In fact, the last five times the two in-state rivals played, the margin of victory for Salisbury was a single goal.
Today, however, the Sea Gulls pinned a 6-0 setback on the Gophers, who bolted the CAC to become a member of the Landmark Conference.
Nick Malone provided the Sea Gulls (5-3-1) with a quick 1-0 advantage by scoring an unassisted goal just 7:01 into the contest. Goals by Greg Taylor at 26:12 and Kevin Mongello at 38:28 bumped Salisbury's lead up to 3-0 at halftime.
The Sea Gulls continued to attack in the second half. They went ahead 4-0 on a goal by Kyle Sterling at 46:04 and 5-0 on a goal by Alex Hargrove at 67:15. Dave Corrigan closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 87:17.
The Gophers (3-6) were limited to five shots the entire contest.
