MADISON, N.J. –The Landmark Conference today named Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School), a junior goalkeeper on Goucher's men's soccer team, as the Defensive Player of the Week for his sport for Sept. 22-28.
Holbrook was the starter in goal when the Gophers took on undefeated Salisbury on Sept. 23 at Beldon Field. The Sea Gulls, wno entered the contest at No. 17 in Division III national rankings, grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mike Napolitano at 60:20, but Goucher answered at 85:42 with a goal by Galen Guindon (Wallingford, Pa./Friends Central).
Neither team was able to score during the final 4:18 of regulation or in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods, so the 1-1 tie stood up as the final result.
Holbrook made five saves during regulation and three more during overtime, including one just before time expired in the second extra session.
Holbrook, who has started all eight games this season, carries a 1.32 goals against average.
