TOWSON, Md. – Three goalkeepers – one for Goucher and two for Juniata – made a combined total of 18 saves on the 31 shots they faced today. More importantly, not one of them allowed a shot to get past them as the Gophers and Eagles played to a 0-0 tie through a pair of overtime periods in the final game of the season for both teams.
Evan Rosse (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) was in goal the entire contest for Goucher (7-8-2, 1-5-1 Landmark) and finished with nine saves. Joe Kohler started for Juniata (5-11-2, 0-5-2 Landmark) and turned away eight shots before being replaced in goal in the 79th minute by Ted Sonneborn, who finished up and made one save.
The Gophers outshot the Eagles in the first half, 13-2, but Kohler made seven of his eight saves in the opening 45:00. Juniata held the upper hand in shots in the second half, taking a total of 10 compared to four for Goucher.
The Gophers got off one shot in each of the two 10-minute extra sessions, even though they had to play a man down for nearly 15 minutes due to a player picking up a second yellow card.
Goucher needed a win or a tie to finish ahead of Juniata in the final 2008 Landmark Conference standings.
