TOWSON, Md. — One player accounted for most of the damage
that Goucher sustained today in a 4-1 loss to Susquehanna in a
Landmark Conference game played on Beldon Field.
Although it was Brandon Eisenhart who stuck a free kick in the 14th minute to get the Crusaders (4-8-1, 1-2 Landmark) on the scoreboard, the other three goals all belonged to Joey Stellato. The junior defender, who had tallied only one goal all season coming in, provided Susquehanna with a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 15th minute and a 3-0 advantage when he put in another one with 10:43 remaining before halftime.
The Gophers (6-6-1, 0-3 Landmark), who overcame a 1-0 deficit in a 3-1 victory over Lancaster Bible earlier this week, closed to within 3-1 on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) at 56:07, but just 1:05 later, Stellato restored Susquehanna's lead to three goals when he completed his hat trick.
Both teams finished with 10 shots and the Crusaders were awarded nine corner kicks, two more than the Gophers.
