TOWSON, Md. — Goucher scored a goal in the 20th minute
tonight to ease the sting of being down 1-0 thanks to a penalty
kick that was awarded to Catholic just 3:24 into the Landmark
Conference contest. The two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 more
than 20 minutes into the second half before an unassisted goal by
Michael DiMarco broke the tie and the Cardinals went on to record a
2-1 victory.
Evan Rosse (Concord, Mass./Bedford) set up Goucher's goal with a cross to Brandon Nicholson (Germantown, Md./Damascus), who beat two Catholic defenders before drilling the ball past goalkeeper Quinn Daly at 19:03. It was the senior's first goal of the season, making him the 10th player to score a goal for the Gophers (6-9-1, 0-5 Landmark) in 2009.
Daly finished with six saves for the Cardinals (11-3-1, 3-1-1 Landmark).
Catholic, which began the night in third place in the Landmark Conference, was limited to only three shots in the first half, but the first one was the penalty kick that Brian Pappas converted.
