Just 2:07 into overtime, however, Jeff McDonald was able to get a shot off following a scrum in front of the goal and it turned into the only goal of the contest as the Knights came out on top, 1-0.
In just his third start in goal, freshman David Spivey (Brooklandville, Md./Park School) helped the Gophers (2-5) reach overtime by making three saves in the first half and two more in the second period before getting beat by McDonald in the 93rd minute.
Ryan Lantzy went the distance in goal for the Knights (3-3) and finished with two saves, both in the second half. The first was on a shot by senior midfielder Jay Berger (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) in the 47th minute and the second occured in the 78th minute, again on a shot by Berger.
