TOWSON, Md. — There were still more than 11 minutes remaining to be played in today's Landmark Conference game when Jay Berger (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) scored for Goucher, reducing Moravian's lead to 2-1. That was ample time for the Gophers to tally at least one more goal.
But it wasn't Goucher that managed to produce a goal in the time remaining. It was Moravian, and Hugh Riley's unassisted goal at 83:04 sealed the Gophers' fate and allowed the Greyhounds to record a 3-1 victory.
Riley also scored one of the two goals that had Moravian ahead 2-0 at the end of the first half. Jeffrey Algor opened the scoring with a goal at 19:33 and Riley followed suit at 25:08. The Greyhounds (4-9-1, 2-1-1 Landmark) enjoyed a 10-2 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes.
Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was awarded an assist on Berger's goal at 78:45 that got the Gophers (4-11, 0-4 Landmark) on the scoreboard.
Berger and Bull were two of the five seniors on Goucher's 2010 roster who played the final home game of their careers. The others: Adam Conston (Narberth, Pa./Kimball Union Academy), Dan Brody (Stonington, Conn./Stonington) and Eddie McMullen (Millersville, Md./Old Mill).
