SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher's first season under the direction of head coach Bryan Laut came to an end today when the Gophers bowed to Scranton, 6-1.
The only goals scored during the first 32 minutes of the Landmark Conference contest was the one by Michael Drew that provided the Royals (7-10-1, 2-5 Landmark) with a 1-0 lead. During the final 13 minutes of the first half, however, Scranton tacked on four additional goals for a commanding 5-0 advantage after 45 minutes.
Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) got the Gophers (4-14, 0-7 Landmark) on the scoreboard when tapped a through ball from Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) into the net at 63:57. The goal was the team-leading ninth of the season for Lais.
John Spadaro's unassisted goal at 69:31 closed out the scoring.
The Royals finished with a 21-11 edge in shots.
