LANCASTER, Pa. — Goucher's first two shots turned into goals against Lancaster Bible this afternoon as the Gophers never trailed on the way to a 2-1 triumph over the Chargers.
Adam Boyce (Fallston, Md./Fallston) provided the Gophers (3-5) with a 1-0 lead when he collected a loose ball and hammered it into the upper left-hand corner of the net at 10:44. It was the senior midfielder's second goal of the season.
Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) got off Goucher's next shot and he put the visitors up 2-0 when his rip from 25 yards out again found the top left corner at 17:56. Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) was awarded an assist on the freshman midfielder's first collegiate goal.
The Gophers would take only one more shot the rest of the first half and couldn't add to their lead with any of the eight shots they unleashed in the second period.
The Chargers (1-3-1) closed to within 2-1 at 25:24 on a goal by Sean Westerlund, but that was all they managed to get past senior goalkeeper Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston), who earned the victory with a six-save performance.
