Gophers Bow to Rangers, Take Drop in Standings
MADISON, N.J. — Despite a career-best 17-save performance by senior goalkeeper Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Goucher came up short against Drew, 3-1, this afternoon and dropped into a tie with the Rangers for third place in the Landmark Conference.
Baum Registers Career-High 17 Saves in 3-1 Setback
MADISON, N.J. — Despite a career-best 17-save performance by senior goalkeeper Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Goucher came up short against Drew, 3-1, this afternoon and dropped into a tie with the Rangers for third place in the Landmark Conference.
The only goal of the opening period was tallied at 13:48 by Ricardo Castro, who chipped his shot over Baum and into the net to provide the Rangers (10-2, 2-1 Landmark) with a 1-0 lead.
Castro scored again at 69:55 of the second half, but less than five minutes later, the Gophers (5-7, 2-2 Landmark) closed to within 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett). The senior forward was able to dribble the ball past the goalkeeper and deposit it into the open net for the 19th goal of his career.
There were :02 showing on the clock when John Nogiewich tallied an unassisted goal to close out the scoring.
The Rangers finished with a 38-8 edge in shots.
