OT Fails to Resolve Tie Between Gophers, Bears

When neither team was able to produce a goal during either of the two 10-minute extra sessions, the contest was declared to be a 2-2 draw.
The Gophers (5-7-1) were awarded a penalty kick at 27:56, which was successfully converted by sophomore midfielder Lashaw Salta (Allen, Texas/Plano East) to put head coach Bryan Laut's squad ahead 1-0.
Goucher's lead grew to 2-0 on a goal by freshman defenseman Brandon Weiner (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok A. Magruder) at 60:39. Freshman midfielder Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) picked up his team-high third assist of the season on the goal, which was the first of Weiner's collegiate career.
The Bears (2-8-3) closed to within 2-1 on a goal by Mike Jansen at 66:47 and pulled into a 2-2 tie on a goal by Chris Polster at 76:24.
During regulation, the home team enjoyed a 17-10 advantage in shots, but in the two overtime periods, the Bears outshot the Gophers, 4-0. Of the three saves senior goalkeeper Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made in the game, two were in overtime.
