Margolis Sets Up Goal by El-Khoury in 14th Minute
TOWSON, Md. — Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) set up the only goal of the contest tonight as Goucher brought down the curtain on its 2012 campaign by turning back Rosemont, 1-0.
It was off a corner kick by Margolis that George El-Khoury (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) tallied his third goal of the season at 13:35. The boot by Margolis curled into the 6 and, when a defender was unable to clear the ball, El-Khoury knocked it in from close range to put the Gophers (5-10-1) ahead.
The assist was the ninth of the season for Margolis, the most any Goucher player has accumulated since Steve Montgomery was awarded 15 back in 1994. In addition, the sophomore midfielder now has at least three more assists than any other player in the Landmark Conference.
The Ravens (10-6-1), who came in having lost only one of its previous 12 games, struggled offensively, producing one shot in the first half and six total. It wasn't until 51:31 that the team managed a shot on goal, ending with just two in the game.
Rodney Aguirre had the best chance to level the score for Rosemont, but his shot from 20 yards out on a free kick was turned away by a diving save by freshman goalkeeper Scott Witte (Wall Twp., N.J./Wall).
Witte made two saves to earn his fourth shutout of the year.
