Landmark Reveals All-Academic Team for Fall 2012
TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference today announced the names of the 32 student-athletes who make up the 2012 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight Landmark institutions.
Fan Lands On 32-Person List for Second Straight Year
TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference today announced the names of the 32 student-athletes who make up the 2012 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight Landmark institutions.
Goucher's four representatives on the sixth annual Fall Landmark All-Academic Team are Thomas Adair (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), a sophomore midfielder on the men's soccer team, Ashley Fan (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), a senior libero on the volleyball team, Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North), a sophomore forward on the men's soccer team, and Liz Weiner (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry), a junior midfielder on the field hockey team.
Each school selected its four nominees, all of whom had to compete in any of the six sports for which the Landmark Conference conducts a championship in the fall. In addition, the nominees had to be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Adair, who also competed on the men's tennis team as a freshman in the spring, appeared in 15 games for the Gophers this season, 14 as a starter. He has yet to declare a major, but achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.67 during his first two semesters at Goucher.
Fan, a biology major with a 3.82 cumulative GPA, is on the Fall All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. In addition, she was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society in 2011 and was the recipient of Judy Lewent '70 Fund for Summer Research in the Sciences grant in 2012. She completed her career ranked third all-time in career digs at Goucher with 1,775, and holds the school record for most digs (33) in a three-set match.
In his first season as a starting forward, Margolis supplied the Gophers with five goals and nine assists for a team-leading total of 19 points. He led the Landmark Conference in assists this season. The recipient of a Global Citizens Scholarship, awarded by Goucher on the basis of academic credentials and special talents, possesses a 3.51 cumulative GPA.
Weiner, a double major in anthrpology and sociology with a 3.96 cumulative GPA through four semesters, is the recipient of Goucher's Emily Newcomer Eby '24 scholarship. During the recently concluded 2012 season. the starting midfielder finished with one assist in the team's 5-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.).
