TOWSON, Md. — Goucher lost at home for the first time in four tries this season as Washington (Md.) kept the Gophers off the scoreboard into the 72nd minute and earned a 3-1 victory over head coach Bryan Laut's squad.
The Shoremen (3-1) assumed a 1-0 lead at 16:07 when Drew Thompson drilled a cross from Brian Wilkinson into the left corner. An own goal at 34:49, the result of a cross deflecting off a Goucher defender into the net, made the score 2-0.
Jack Butler put the visitors up 3-0 at 67:45 by knocking in a Dimitri Kaliakin's free kick.
The Gophers (4-2), who outscored the first three opponents they tangled with on Beldon Field this season, 9-1, closed to within 3-1 at 71:50 when Brandon Weiner successfully headed in a free kick by John Sturgis from the right side.
The Shoremen finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots and were awarded seven corner kicks, one more than the Gophers.
