KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Goucher's men's soccer program has been named a recipient of a 2012-13 Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The NSCAA annually recognizes college soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the pitch. For a team to be considered, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official roster for the fall season.
Goucher's program, which is under the direction of fourth-year head coach Bryan Laut, qualified for the award with a 3.14 composite team GPA. Across all three divisions of the NCAA, along with the NAIA and junior colleges, there were only 270 men's soccer programs that met the standards. The only other men's soccer program in the Landmark Conference that earned a 2012-13 Team Academic Award from the NSCAA was Susquehanna, which did so with a 3.03 composite team GPA.
"It's certainly an honor to be one of the two men's soccer programs in the Landmark (Conference) to meet the standards for this award," commented Geoff Miller, Goucher's athletic director. "It also says something about Coach Laut for him to have the team headed in the right direction competitively without sacrificing academics."
