BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College men's soccer team (0-1-0, Landmark 0-0-0) dropped its 2017 season opener to cross town rival, Johns Hopkins University, Friday evening.
The Gophers were first to make an attempt on goal in the game when junior Konrad Bulanowski (Philadelphia, Pa.) forced Bryan See off his line in the third minute. Goucher would not have another opportunity on goal for the remainder of the half.
JHU chalked up four shots on goal in the opening half but were unable to find the back net behind junior goalkeeper Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, Pa.).
After 69 minutes of no score, the Blue Jays finally broke the silence when Connor Jacobs crossed the ball in and Achim Younker one touched the ball to the far post. JHU added another goal in the 88th minute to secure a 2-0 lead and their first win of the 2017 season.
Hendry played the entire 90 minutes in goal for Goucher, making six saves. See went on to make five stops in net, earning his first clean sheet of the season.
Senior Drew Phillips (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) and Bulanowski led the Gophers with two shots on goal each.
The Gophers return to action on Sunday when they host Mt. Aloysius on Beldon Field at 1 p.m. for the team's home opener.
