The Goucher College men's soccer team opened up their season on the road at Cairn Thursday evening, falling to the Highlanders 4-2.
The Highlanders (1-0) took command early, as first year Jesse Brittain scored to put Cairn up 1-0. Brittain scored again just four minutes later, to give Cairn the early 2-0 lead just over 17 minutes into the contest. The Highlanders took that 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission. In the second half, Cairn was granted a corner kick that resulted in the third goal of the contest in the 50th minute. Goucher tallied its first goal of the contest in the 53rd minute on a shot by Jeremiah Odubade (1) that was assisted by Bobby Beringer. However, Cairn responded in the 67th minute to give Cairn a commanding lead.
Zach LaFaver knocked in a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for his first goal of the year.
The Gophers will be back in action on Saturday, September 4 when they welcome Penn State Brandywine to Beldon Field. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. Prior to the game, Goucher will honor Mapach Odolla. A beloved member of the soccer team and Goucher community, Pach tragically lost his life in May prior to returning to Goucher for his Junior year.
