After a physically demanding match, the Goucher men's soccer team could not capitalize on chances and ended their home opener in a 0-0 tie against Penn State Brandywine on Saturday.
Bobby Beringer and Jeremiah Odubade supplied offensive pressure in the first half to jumpstart the Gophers as they made their first moves. Brandywine soon followed suit and the game quickly became a defensive battle; Jeff Castro finished the game with six recorded shot-saves.
But it was Goucher's offense that had a chance to pull ahead late in the half when a foul drawn by Odubade inside the box brought up senior Zach LaFaver to try and break the stalemate in the 86th minute. A great shot was seen by even better goalkeeping as Freshman keeper Elijah DeBooth stretched out to make a save.
Both overtime periods saw the Gophers applying pressure all over the pitch to no avail as the lone shot of overtime came from Brandywine in the 103rd minute.
The men will take the pitch again on Sunday as they face the United States Coast Guard Academy in another home match. Game time is 2:00PM.
